Banksy in Naples: here his two works

The news of theBanksy's arrest, one of the most famous and acclaimed writers in the world, on whose identity there are numerous unsolved questions.

Lashing, irreverent, shameless, transgressive. Banksy is this and much more. Probably originally from Bristol, he left his signature in many Italian and foreign cities earning, in addition to the unbridled chase by the police, also praise and honors that even earned him a collaboration, in 2009, with the Bristol Museum from which came what are, in my opinion, some of his best works.

It was also the destination of his numerous pilgrimages Naples, in which he left two works, both in the historic center. One, in via Benedetto Croce, adjacent to the famous square of San Domenico Maggiore, depicted Santa Teresa; another The Madonna with the gun in piazza Gerolomini, along via dei Tribunali, almost at the height of via Duomo.

Santa Teresa he wanted to be a criticism of consumerism, in fact the saint was represented with chips and cola In the womb. I use the imperfect because, unfortunately, this graffiti was covered in 2010 by the writing of an anonymous writer perhaps envious or perhaps disrespectful.

The Madonna with the gunInstead, it resists and is in excellent condition although in August 2012 another writer has affixed a mugging, fortunately only on the black background, leaving the Madonna intact. What is special about this job? Not only the perfection that distinguishes ours, not only the gun that acts as a halo to emphasize and condemn a criminal system that unfortunately afflicts Naples, but also and above all the parallelism with a sacred image of the Madonna that is right next to Bansky's work.

It is the sacred and the profane. It is almost a metaphor for Naples, poised between legality and corruption, between good and evil, between faith and its exploitation. If you love street art and if you love art in its broadest sense, you can't help but pass by piazza Gerolomini: you will find the soul and scent of an artist who has now become a legend.
