A first of May in the Alto Garda

A first of May in the Alto Garda

Spring on Garda Lake it is magnificent. If you want to treat yourself to a special day, I will give you some tips to spend an unforgettable day in my beautiful hometown Riva del Garda, and its surroundings.

Let's start with breakfast. You can choose the historic pastry shop of the city, Bar - Pastry Copat, in Viale Dante Alighieri 37, where you can enjoy excellent cappuccinos, truly gigantic cakes and brioches. Alternatively you can opt for a more recent and contemporary place called Coffee shop, also in Viale Dante but at number 73. In addition to buying excellent coffee, you can enjoy special breakfasts, even take away, in the old-fashioned style with lots of latte, yoghurt, toast, various jams, cereals and many other delicacies. The wholemeal honey brioches are delicious.

Then I advise you to take a trip to the Bastione di Riva, a XNUMXth century fortress located on Monte Rocchetta about ten minutes walk from the city, and which will allow you to see a beautiful panorama from above. If you want to overdo it you can also continue up the mountain until you reach the suggestive church of S.Barbara, which is located overlooking the lake. In this case it will take an hour and a half but even less if you are trained. Alternatively you can visit the Rocca which is located in the city center and its Pinacoteca.

For lunch you can choose. If you want to spoil yourself and don't mind spending a little, I recommend my favorite restaurant called "Al Volt" restaurant and is located in Via Fiume 73; here you can have a tasting of foods based on fish from the lake and beyond. While for a faster, cheaper but very tasty lunch I recommend the Mecki's which is located in Torbole sul Garda in Via Matteotti 5 (you can always get there on foot). In this bar they make some special stuffed toast that I assure you will not forget. In the afternoon, take a walk along the lakeside of Riva del Garda walking up to Torbole. For a snack, enjoy a famous homemade ice cream Flora ice cream parlor in Viale Rovereto 54 in Riva.

And, if you want extra relaxation, you will find the wellness center halfway, in via Linfano, 52 (here the town becomes Arco, but it is always on the street) GardaThermae. It is a splendid center with indoor and outdoor heated thermal pools, a spectacular sauna area and everything you could wish for.

For dinner, if you like sushi I recommend the restaurant Sushoku in Viale Martiri 28 June, 7 in Riva or, again if you appreciate fish or good pizza, the La Villa Restaurant in Nago, in Via Sighele 9. For after dinner, if you like drinks made really well, go to the Goose Pub in Via Santa Maria a Riva.
