Western Algarve: discovering a historic and characteristic place, including beaches, boat trips and a magnificent excursion to spot dolphins!

Here I am, recently returned from my summer holidays, unfortunately already over.
This year we have chosen the Portugal, in fact we decided to do a nice tour starting from Porto and surroundings, then going down in Algarve to finally go up towards Lisbon.

3 days in Lagos, what to see

Lagos, western Algarve

It is precisely the Algarve that I want to talk to you about, and specifically about Lagos, a quaint and historic city located in the western Algarve.

It is characterized by a strong maritime tradition together with a breathtaking coastal landscape, in fact it is considered one of the most chosen destinations in the area.

Day 1. The most famous beaches

We stayed in Lagos 3 full days, we arrived from Porto by train and on the first day we dedicated ourselves a bit to discovering this new place.
On this first day we decided to explore some of the most famous beaches of the area, such as Praia de Dona Ana Praia de Porto de Mos and finally Meia Praia: what can I say, they are huge, sandy beaches, with a spectacular ocean, crystal clear waters and obviously quite cold, in fact I myself did not have the courage to enter the water if not to get my legs a little wet.

The thing that most surprised me about these beaches, in addition to the vastness that allows a lot of privacy unlike many Italian beaches I was used to, is undoubtedly the climate, since there is a lot of sun but also a lot of wind so you get tanned. without suffering from the heat.

So our first day passed between sun and relaxation, while from the second day we decided to dedicate ourselves to some excursion, since there are really a lot of them in that area.

Day 2. Excursions

Our first choice was thecatamaran excursion to spot dolphins: it was my first time on a boat in the ocean and it was simply special, we drove a lot of miles towards the open ocean, a ride of about an hour and a half accompanied by a biologist who explained a lot to us things about these fantastic mammals, and seeing the free dolphins swimming all around us was an indescribable feeling.

We then spent the rest of the day relaxing on the beach.

Day 3. Trip to Ponta da Piedade

Our last day instead we started with a trip in a very small boat with direction Point of Pity, a series of cliffs always exposed to atmospheric agents and characterized by spectacular caves, arches and bays, considered the most beautiful distinctive feature of the Algarve, our guide was really nice and told us a few anecdotes about these magnificent caves.

I have listed only the two excursions that we personally have chosen, but there are many others, such as tour in the caves by kayak, or the 6 hour boat trip to Sagres, or even the boat trip for fishingIn short, Lagos is a place that really offers a lot in terms of tourism and experience.

To conclude, if you love nature, the sea and even a little adventure, Lagos is your place, you absolutely must visit it because I assure you that you will not get it out of your head, I myself hope to be able to return soon!
