10 things to see in Malta

Malta it is one of the destinations that have fascinated me most in recent years. The reason is not difficult to understand, but I tell you anyway. Although little is known about Malta, the island holds some surprises that are worth not getting lost and telling. For those who have decided to make one holiday in Malta, and has little time to visit it, maybe 3 or 5 days, it is good to know the 10 things in my opinion not to be missed in this beautiful island.

John's Cathedral

So bare on the outside and so rich on the inside. There Malta Cathedral located in Valletta is a real gem that you absolutely must visit. From the outside you will hardly notice it, but once you enter you will tell yourself, but how did I miss it so far? In addition to the chapels dedicated to the Knights of Malta and the 27 tombs of the Grand Masters, buried here, do not miss the Chapel where there is the only painting in the world signed by Caravaggio. You will be as thrilled as I was.

The times of Mnajdra and Hagar Qim

Not really easy to reach, I admit, these times are worth visiting for those who love history, archeology and more generally for those who, when visiting a location, don't just want parties and entertainment. THE times of Mnajdra and Hagar Qim they have recently undergone a recovery operation and offer visitors an audio guide in several languages, even in your language at the cost of only one euro, in my opinion fundamental. You will be amazed in front of the extraordinary beauty and the incredible history of these sites. If you can go there at sunset or find out how to visit them in the evening, it will be worth it.

hypogeum

Un temple carved into the rock, discovered only and by chance in 1899 and from 1980 inserted in heritage of Unesco. To make you understand the importance of this site, just know that they are allowed every day only 80 people and the controls are very strict. Obviously you cannot take pictures, the visit of thehypogeum it lasts about 50 minutes and the ticket price is 30 €. You will have to book the visit several weeks in advance, but believe me it will be worth it, you will feel like you have discovered where the Holy Grail resides.

Popeye village

An amusement park suitable especially for the little ones or for those with children. If you do not want to do the ticket price, follow the instructions in the post we have already written on Popeye village to take pictures from the outside and see the site in a certainly privileged position. Getting to the village will make you discover the north east area of Malta, where you can also visit if you want Red Tower, definitely suggestive at sunset.

Maltese rabbit

Going to a place without tasting its typical food is really something not to do. I recommend that you taste at least one of the 5 typical dishes of Malta which I recommended in a recent post. If you really are people who do not like to try other foods, take at least the Maltese rabbit, a real treat. Choose a restaurant that serves typical products, I can recommend the restaurant in St. Julian Gululu. If you want to overdo it, go and see all five dishes and don't miss the famous pastizzi!

Casa Rocca Piccola

A beautiful house museum in Valletta now open to the public. Visit this place if you want to understand what life was like under the Order of the Knights of Malta. Inside the rooms of this house you will find the story of Malta told by a wealthy family, belonging to the Order, of the Island. Casa Rocca Piccola has specific visiting hours, if you don't want to go wrong read the

Trip to Gozo and Comino

A trip to Malta cannot fail to include a trip to Gozo and Comino. The two islands, sisters of Malta, are to be admired in summer and spring. Do not leave if the weather is not the best or you will risk being left ashore as the ferries do not leave in case of bad weather. Admire a Gozo and Comino wild nature and colors, green and blue in all their shades.

Blue Lagoon

Between Gozo and Comino lies the splendid Lagoon blue. If it's a sunny day, take advantage of it and get to boarding pretty early. Obviously there are many tourists and you will have to be patient by queuing up a bit. What you will then see will be a spectacle of nature, a blue water of a thousand shades that will repay you for all the effort made. The Blu Lagoon is located precisely in Comino but can only be reached with private boats.

Mdina

Mdina is the city of silence, the ancient capital of Malta. Getting here by bus is quite simple also because there is always a lot of tourism and the areas of Malta are well served. Mdina is truly the city of silence, and in various parts of the city people are asked to respect this invitation, even for those who live there. Take a nice ride, get lost in the alleys, let yourself be enchanted by bright colors of the doors and windows and finally, eat a good chocolate cake from Standpipe!

Vittoriosa

A visit to the ancient city of the Knights of Malta is a must. The locality of Vittoriosa, for the Maltese still Birgu, is clearly visible from Valletta and the Barracca gardens. Lose yourself in the streets of Vittoriosa and if you go in October, don't miss the festival that is celebrated every year for a few days: the whole city of Vittoriosa is lit by candles alone. A show.
